Whorlton and Westwick News - August Letter
A review of As You Like It performed by Folksy Theatre and written by Sarah Rankin, visiting from Australia!
Folksy Theatre’s "As You Like It" transformed Whorlton green into a lively stage of mirth and music, offering a joyous night for all. Flossie Ure’s Rosalind was portrayed with wit and charm, drawing the audience into her world. Ronan O’Hara’s Orlando embodied passion, his presence magnetic. Seonaid Stevenson’s Celia charmed with humour, while Holly Durkin’s exceptional portrayal added depth to Oliver's transformation and Silvius’ heartfelt sincerity.
Stuart Scott’s Touchstone delivered quips with impeccable timing, and as Jaques, his introspective soliloquies resonated deeply. His interpretation of "All the world's a stage" was poignant and moving. The outdoor setting blended perfectly with their musical talents, enhancing emotional beats with grace. Birds chirped in harmony with actors' lines, and gentle breezes carried the actor musicians' melodies, enriching the performance.
Costumes and set design embraced rustic charm, allowing talents to shine brightly.
Audience engagement was palpable, with moments of reflection balanced by uproarious comedy. Overall, Folksy Theatre’s performance was a testament to Shakespearean comedy’s enduring appeal and the actors’ talents. Their collective artistry wove a tapestry of delight that lingered long after the final bow—an unforgettable blend of nature, music, and superb acting.
